Dear Gates Chili Middle School Families, 

Welcome to the start of a new school year! This Family Handbook is a resource for you to reference throughout the school year.  

The Gates Chili Middle School (GCMS) community has created an atmosphere where we teach and inspire excellence for all learners. This atmosphere flourishes because of our dedicated staff, involved families, and responsible students. It takes a commitment from all stakeholders to help reinforce our district’s core values of respect, responsibility, compassion, and hard work. 

All Gates Chili Middle and High School students are provided with a laptop to use both at school and at home to enrich their learning opportunities. The laptops connect our students to engaging resources, creative tools, expert access, and authentic audiences available through the Internet. We want our students to experience, connect, and interact with the world around them in ways that traditional textbooks and curriculum alone cannot provide.  

The Middle School will be open for families and students to set up lockers and walk student schedules at the end of August. The dates and times for 7th and 8th grade locker setup this year are: August 26, 2:00-400 PM and August 29, 3:00-7:00 PM. 

6th grade and new-to-district students will have an opportunity to orient themselves in a more structured atmosphere, on August 26, 2024, during two different sessions; 8:30-11:00 AM and 12:30-3:00 PM.  

There are many ways to stay in contact with our school. Consider some of the forums below: 

• Activate your ParentSquare account. Our weekly Spartan Happenings memo and quarterly newsletter will be published in this new app. To activate your go to parentsquare.com/signin and register with the phone number or email address you have on file with the district.
  
  
• Make sure you can access the Parent Portal. This online interface is where you can access to your student’s grades, schedule, conduct history, class assignments, etc. Directions for logging into the Parent Portal are linked here.
  
  
• Check out the middle school website accessed through the district’s website: www.gateschili.org.
  
  
• Access your student's Schoology courses to view the course syllabus and daily/weekly classwork and activities.
  
  
• Sign up for a parent/teacher/student conference through your grade-level team. Unlike elementary school, these are not automatically scheduled in the fall.
