First Days of School

  • When will my child receive a schedule?

During the summer, in late August, student schedules will be made available in ParentSquare and will be available in SchoolTool. Students will receive a locker assignment at the same time as their schedule.

    Transportation

In late August, information regarding the time of pick-up and the bus number for your student will be sent through ParentSquare and mailed to your home from the Transportation Department. If you have questions about your student’s bus information, please call the Transportation Department at 585-247-4774.

    Summer Visitations

Students, accompanied by a parent or guardian, are welcome to visit the Middle School to set up their lockers and “walk their schedules.”  The building will be open during the following times:

    Monday, August 26, 2024:       2:00 – 4:00 PM

    Thursday, August 29, 2024:     3:00 – 7:00 PM

Incoming 6th Grade and New-to-District Students

Incoming 6th grade and new-to-district students will have a chance to familiarize themselves to the building in a more structured atmosphere during two identical orientation sessions:

    Monday, August 26, 2024:       8:30 – 11:00 AM

    Monday, August 26, 2024:       12:30 – 3:00 PM

    Student Laptop Distribution

Most of our 5th through 7th grade students kept their district-issued laptops over the summer. If your student does not already have a district-issued laptop, it can be picked up at the same time as the summer visitations.  It is very important that students are accompanied by a parent or guardian and that they complete the appropriate forms online (https://www.gateschili.org/domain/956) otherwise, the laptop may not be able to be taken home.

    First Full Day of School

The first day of school for ALL students is Tuesday, September 3, 2024. All students will report to their A-day period 1 class. This room number can be found on the student’s individual schedule. Students who would like to get breakfast will pick it up in the cafeteria upon arrival and then report to their A-day period 1 class. Our team of educators at the Middle School have designed an all-day program called “Starting the Year Off Right” to facilitate with all of our students on the first day of school. In this program, students will follow their schedules and participate in activities and information sessions pertaining to topics such as: the code of conduct, digital citizenship, organizing their supplies and workflow, hallway/study hall expectations, setting up their frequently used online accounts, and more.

    School Lunch

Check the Gates Chili School District website https://www.gateschili.org/Page/120 for the Monthly Menu and also other important School Nutrition information and updates.  The menu for September will be posted in late August.

You may have heard that Gates Chili was recently approved again for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. This program allows all of our students, regardless of household income, to be provided with free breakfast and lunch all year! We know this program will continue to have a transformative impact on our students and families.

Here are some points to consider regarding this program:

    • Families do not need to complete any forms for their student(s) to receive free breakfast or lunch at school.
    • Families should still complete the Income Eligibility Form (formerly known as the Free and Reduced Meal Application). This form is tied to many other important benefits our school and district receive that help to minimize various costs for our families. The Income Eligibility Form is available on our website at gateschili.org/IncomeForm and will be available through MySchoolApps this fall.
    • Do not discard your MySchoolBucks account! Individual food items are still available for purchase throughout the year.
    • To read more about free meals and meal accounts, see our frequently asked questions.
