Health Office and Counseling

  • HEALTH OFFICE

    • All seventh-grade students and every student new to the district will need to have a physical examination.  This can be performed by the family physician or the school physician. Scoliosis screening for all students will be done in the nurse’s office. Vision and hearing screening for all students new to the district and for all grade 7 students will take place. Parents will be notified of any test results which appear to need a follow-up.
    • Any accident or injury occurring on school property must be reported to the health office by the injured person.
    • If your child is seriously ill, or injured, or will be out more than three (3) days, the nurse should be contacted at 585.247.6780.

    Immunizations—All students need to be compliant with New York State immunization requirements in order to attend school.

    Dispensing Medication—State law requires the following if a student must take medication (prescription and/or over the counter) during school hours; There must be:

    • a written request from the doctor.
    • a written request from the parent/guardian.
    • medication in a labeled prescription bottle.
    • medication delivered to the health office by an adult. Unused medication should be picked up by an adult the last week of school.  Medications not picked up will be discarded.

     

    COUNSELING SERVICES

    • The Middle School offers individual and group counseling to students.
    • General counseling lessons are conducted in classroom settings. Topics may include tools for academic success, peer relationships, and self-esteem.
    • Counselors plan with individual students to facilitate a smooth transition to the next grade level.

    PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

    The Middle School offers psycho-educational assessments for students with special needs. School psychologists are also available to consult on matters of academic assistance and personal adjustment.
