STEP- MCC Program

Purpose:
Gates Chili Middle School collaborates with Monroe Community College (MCC) to encourage and support students with interest in pursuing a career in science, technology, math, and licensed professions. We offer a Science Technology Entry Program (STEP), which is an academic enrichment program. STEP is funded through a grant by the New York State Education Department. The grant's intent is to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students prepared to enter college and to improve their participation rate in these fields of study. Admission into this program is competitive and requires students to participate in an application process.
Eligibility:The eligibility requirements are:
• minimum overall average of 78%
• enrolled in grades 7 or 8
Students who are not underrepresented (e.g., Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Alaskan Native, or American Indian) must meet economic eligibility guidelines as established by NYS.
Target Audience:- Economically disadvantages; or
- Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Alaskan Native, or American Indian

- Core subject support
- Internships
- 3-week Summer Bridge Program that is free to STEP students.
- Field trips in the fields of math, science, technology, and licensed professions
- Academic competitions
- Standardized tests preparation
- Career awareness/development activities
- HS and College admission counseling
