    Meet The Teacher

Hello! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Mrs. Melisa Meyer.  As a 1995 graduate of Gates Chili, I am proud to be working as a sixth grade teacher at the Gates Chili Middle School and am looking forward to starting my fourteenth year of teaching sixth grade. I love working in and giving back to a district that has given me so much throughout the years!

As an undergraduate student, I attended SUNY Geneseo, where I earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, with a focus in mathematics.  I completed my master's degree in the area of literacy education at Nazareth College of Rochester, so I am a certified reading teacher.  I love to learn!

As you have probably guessed, I grew up in the town of Gates, where I attended Gates Chili schools from kindergarten up to my high school graduation. I currently reside in Hilton, where I live with my husband and our beautiful daughter, Morgan Elizabeth, who just turned THREE this past June! Morgan is growing and changing every single day---she is absolutely adorable! We just adore our little girl! Our family recently grew to add a handsome and loveable little boy, Nolan Denny.  He is precious and has made our family complete!

My family and I also share our home with three cuddly cats--Frenley, Rocky and Reeces--and an energetic (and also quite spoiled) Italian Greyhound named Oliver James--known to most as "Ollie".  My family means the world to me!

I enjoy spending time with my family & friends, and working with smiling sixth graders!  When not in school, you might find me snuggling with my baby girl, reading a good book on my Kindle,  scrapbooking, listening to my iPod, shopping, going for a walk with my family, swimming, relaxing outdoors, renting movies, or maybe even baking a special dessert (I used to be a cake decorator for Wegmans Bakery).  Whew! So much to do...I am always "on the go"!

I love teaching 6th grade--I continue to be amazed at all that children at this age are able to learn, as well as what I can learn from them.   I pride myself on having high expectations for both myself and my students. I want them to have a great first-year experience in the middle school setting, and I work very hard throughout the year to ensure that each student's needs are met.  I feel honored and privileged to be working with the children and parents of the Gates Chili Central School District. I look forward to another rewarding and successful school year!
