What We Do
-
Mentoring- Youth Advocates are located within the high school to provide support to students throughout the school day. Youth Advocates will meet with students during their lunch period, study hall, or after school. Being present in classes for instruction is key to academic success. Therefore, mentoring meetings are not scheduled during class time. At times, a student will have immediate needs that will be addressed and any time away from class will be communicated to the teacher.
Collaboration- There are many important people in the lives of our students that have a significant impact on their success. Youth Advocates work with families, school staff, and employers to help monitor student progress towards graduation and post-secondary goals.
Academic Support- Tutoring is provided after school on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-4 pm at the high school. Snacks and transportation are provided.
Regents Exam Prep is available for 6 weeks prior to the January and June Regents Exams. Test prep takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm at our Success Campus (located at 16 Lakeview Park). Snacks and transportation are provided.
Students also have an opportunity to participate in Nazareth College Connection on Wednesdays after school from 3:45-5:15 pm. Through the program, students receive tutoring from Nazareth College students on campus and participate in fun college immersion activities. Dinner and transportation are provided.
Enrichment Activities- Students will have opportunities to explore career interests, attend college tours, develop life skills, and participate in social life activities. Activities are scheduled during lunch periods, after school, school breaks, and summer vacation.
Employment- Students that meet AAA Standards (excellent Academics, Attendance, and Attitude) are eligible to participate in our Youth Employment Training Academy (YETA). Following successful completion of YETA, students apply for part-time jobs with our employment partners. For more information, please see our link for 'YETA'.
Post-Secondary Planning Support- Support is provided to help students set goals, explore their interests, and prepare for entry into college, careers, or the military. Youth Advocates and Specialists are available to assist students with college applications, scholarship applications, and financial aid.
