NHS is a prestigious organization and highly selective based upon the Four Pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Eligibility for NHS selection is initially based upon the following criteria: Junior/Senior status, attendance at Gates Chili for at least 1 semester, 92% weighted GPA. Students who meet these initial requirements will receive notification in the fall of their Junior or Senior Year.
Upon notification, eligible students must thoroughly complete the NHS selection process (see the Candidate Requirement link). The information supplied by the potential candidates will be reviewed by a faculty council and used to select the official members of the Gates Chili Chapter of the National Honor Society. Full membership culminates in a formal induction ceremony.
To remain in good standing, a NHS member must maintain a 92% weighted GPA, participate in a group service project, complete 25 hours of community service (10 of which are tutoring), and attend additional mandatory events fulfilled by NHS. Finally, each of the Four Pillars (scholarship, leadership, service, and character) of NHS must be upheld throughout a candidate's high school career.
