• The New York State Seal of Biliteracy is an award that formally recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in one or more languages, in addition to English. Gates Chili High School is proud to offer the opportunity to earn this special recognition to our students which began in the 2018-2019 school year.

    The New York State Seal of Biliteracy is intended for all students who are proficient in English and any other language, including American Sign Language.

  • How do students apply for the Seal of Biliteracy?

    Applications are available to download on this website within the Information Packet, or in the Counseling Office at the High School. The Seal of Biliteracy Committee will review applications and then assign an advisor to eligible students.

    Students can apply in their junior or senior year of high school. Applications must be received by November 1st of their Senior Year.

  • Who will help students with the process after they apply for the NYSSB?

    Once the application is approved, each student will be assigned an advisor that will meet with the student and help to develop a plan and a timeline.
