High School Academic Intervention Services
-
WHAT ARE ACADEMIC INTERVENTION SERVICES?
Academic Intervention Services (AIS) is a state-mandated program for students that provides necessary instruction to help build literacy and math skills. The services follow the Gates Chili Central School Districts "K-12 Academic Intervention Plan".
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THE SERVICE?
GCHS students may qualify for AIS based on their classroom performance, assessment scores, and staff recommendations. Our AIS committee meets multiple times a year to coordinate services for eligible students.
HOW ARE THE SERVICES PROVIDED?
GCHS offers services through indirect and direct instruction in both the pull-out and push-in models. The pull-out services take place every other day and are taught in a small group setting by a literacy teacher. They allow students an opportunity to build specific literacy skills while receiving academic classroom support. It is a noncredit-bearing course and students do not receive a numerical grade. The push-in or co-taught services are provided daily within specific credit-bearing content-area classes and are taught by both a content-area teacher and a literacy teacher. The skill building takes place within the classroom setting and a numerical grade attached.
