Olin appointed as next Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
The Gates Chili Central School District Board of Education unanimously voted on March 23 to appoint Mr. Troy Olin as the district’s new Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. He will assume his new leadership role effective July 1, 2021, replacing Mrs. Carol Stehm, who is set to retire at the end of this school year.
Mr. Olin has a long career at Gates Chili that dates back to 2006. As the Director of Technology since 2016, Mr. Olin led our district’s digital conversion efforts and has overseen the integration of technology into curriculum, instruction and assessment. He also served as a middle and high school technology teacher, athletic coach, secondary assistant principal, and coordinator of technology integration before taking over as director of technology.
“As a member of the Gates Chili family for nearly 15 years, I understand firsthand what it means to be a Spartan and the pride felt throughout our learning community,” said Olin. “Over the next several months I will be visiting buildings and classrooms, meeting with staff and students, and attending school and community events to learn more about the strengths and needs of our school community, so together, we can take the necessary steps to maximize student learning.”
Mr. Olin holds a bachelor’s degree in technology education from SUNY Oswego, as well as a master’s degree in liberal studies and certificate of advanced study in educational administration from SUNY Brockport. He also recently completed the New York State Superintendent Development Program through SUNY Oswego.
Mr. Olin will oversee the district’s office of instruction and will continue Mrs. Stehm’s legacy of collaboration with district and building administrators and teacher leaders to provide culturally-responsive guidance and oversight of all curriculum, instruction and assessment. I will be working closely with Mrs. Stehm and Mr. Olin as we prepare to make this transition.
The district will begin the process of searching for the district’s next director of technology, with hopes of having Mr. Olin’s successor in place on June 1, 2021.
