  • Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at Christine_Smelt@gateschili.org

Folders: Your child will have a Take Home Folder that gets sent home everyday. Please empty out the "Take Home" side daily and return any items that may need to be brought back. This is also a great place to stick any notes (excuses, bus pass...) that may need my attention. I check these every morning.

Homework: Your child's homework is to read every night for 15-20 minutes. This is a daily expectation and a great way for your child to develop a love of literacy.  New this year, students will receive a spartan reading bag filled with books to take home nightly and read.

In addition, "Un-Homework" assignments will be sent home each Monday. Students will have a week to work on their choices and return tickets for each task they completed. Names will be chosen the following Monday for extra incentives. All choices on the chart are optional. You may complete as little or as many as you'd like. Each choice is designed to reinforce concepts we are working on in class.

Snack- Your child may bring in a snack to have in the afternoon and a water bottle to keep at his/her desk. Think healthy when packing your child's snack (veggies, pretzels, granola bars, cheese sticks). Please try to avoid things like chips, brownies, doughnuts..etc.

Classroom Management: I will be using Class Dojo to as my classroom management system. Parents can connect directly with their child to  see how their day is going. Students earn points for positive behaviors and lose points for behaviors that do not demonstrate the Brasser Way. For every 25 points, your child will earn a prize from our wall.  I also use this website as a way to share stories, photos, and reminders with families.
