All About Mrs. Barr
Hi! I am so excited for this year! Many years ago, I was a Paul Road Panther myself! It is a great feeling to give back to the community and school. After all, this is where my love for learning began.
This will be my fourth year as a 3rd grade teacher! I also taught 5th grade for 3 years. Before that, I spent a year as a long-term substitute teacher in 5th grade and a AIS literacy teacher. I've also taught both 3rd and 5th grade in the Gates-Chili Summer Literacy Program. I spent the 2011-2012 school year teaching in southern Florida. I was a Special Education Consultant Teacher for grade 5. The weather was beautiful, but I was happy to return back home to Rochester.
I began my college education at Ithaca College. I was a dual major in psychology and sociology. After graduating, I worked at Hillside Children's Center as a Teaching Assistant. This is where I discovered my passion for teaching, and decided to return to school for a Master's in Education. I graduated from Nazareth College with a degree in Inclusive Childhood Education. I hold New York State Teaching Certification in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and Students with Disabilities (grades 1-6). I look forward to continuing to engage in learning opportunities that will assist me in best meeting my students' learning needs. I am currently working on my Arts Integration Certification.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. The best part of each day is the time I get to spend with my sons and husband. Together we have two children, Jackson Mark (5 1/2 years old) and Tanner Douglas (4 years old). While I do enjoy all four seasons, my favorite days are warm, sunny days spent outside. We have a family cottage on Sodus Bay, and I spend much of my time there each summer. I love to swim, kayak, walk the beach for sea glass, and roast marshmallows on the bonfire. I love to garden and experiment with growing vegetables. When I can't be outside, I love to try out new recipes in the kitchen, cheer on my favorite sports teams (Go Bills! Go Red Sox! Go Sabres!), and read. I read on a tablet sometimes, and find it to be just as nice as holding a good paperback! I have a very crazy cat, named Mowgli. I can't wait to learn all about you and your families!
