HOMEWORK POLICY

  • Purposes for Homework:

    • To provide time for students to practice what they have learned in class.
    • To prepare for new information or elaborate on information that has been introduced.

     Guidelines for Homework:

    • Homework is to be turned in when the student enters the class that morning.
    • Homework is expected to be completed to the best of the student’s ability.
    • Homework is expected to include their name and number. Students will be assigned a number that they will use whenever handing in material.  This is strictly for my organizational purposes.

    Incomplete Homework:

    • If homework is incomplete the student is required to finish it during recess that day.
    • If the student could not complete their homework due to circumstances beyond their control, a note or phone call from a parent/guardian is helpful.

    Parental Involvement:

    •  Help set a consistent organized place for homework to be done.
    • Help your child establish a consistent schedule for completing homework.
    • Encourage, motivate, and prompt your child, but do not sit with them and do the homework with them if possible.
    • Instead, when your child is working on a skill, ask them which sections are easy for them and which ones are difficult.  When they are struggling, ask them to tell you what they know, what things we discussed in class, and see if they can work through it with some guidance.
    • Please remember to check the daily reading logs . This will encourage your child to be accountable for their reading time!
